Mother Teresa frequently employed a rapid devotional practice she termed the “Flying Novena,” which involved reciting this prayer nine times in succession to seek the Blessed Mother’s swift assistance. She even added one more, to make it ten, in thanksgiving every time.
Maria Alphonse Ratisbonne, born into a Jewish family, was challenged by a Catholic acquaintance to wear the Miraculous Medal and recite this prayer every morning and every evening for a month. When he visited the Church of Sant’Andrea delle Fratte in Rome, Ratisbonne, he experienced a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This profound encounter led to his immediate conversion to Catholicism. He later became a Jesuit priest, dedicating his life to God.
St. Francis de Sales, was tormented by fears of eternal damnation. In his distress, he fervently prayed this prayer on his knees before a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Following this heartfelt plea, he experienced an immediate and profound sense of peace, permanently dispelling his spiritual anguish. Because of this, he continued to pray this prayer every day.
The prayer is the Memorare.
